My buddies and I have kept this debate alive for years… Is a Wendy’s ‘Frosty’ a beverage or a dessert? I fall into the latter camp; two of my friends, the former. But this conundrum was once brought to the forefront of my existence the other night when I stopped into the fast-food eatery to grab a burger, fries, Coke, and Frosty to go, to which the counter guy asked me: “You want a soda and a Frosty?” seemingly implying the feeling my buddies have; I wanted two drinks?
Hey, the guy’s a professional; he should know, right? Maybe my friends have been right all along?
No, they aren’t. At least not for me.
The creamy concoction, made up of God knows how little actual ice cream, is not something I always go for. In fact, I am trying to go for less and less fast food these days. But I do like me a Wendy’s Frosty (and burger and Coke and fries) from time to time, and the other night I figured was the perfect opportunity to grab a bunch o’ stuff. I just never thought I’d be thrust back into the old debate by the subtle questioning of the amiable Wendy’s employee.
Yes, first world problem this is not, I realize. There is a hell of a lot more going on right now, I guess, that I should be concerned about. But frankly, I’m not. As you know, reading me here even a little, I am just not one of those folks who cares so much about the bigger picture, the weighty debates, the seeming cultural evolutions, the adjustments we are supposed to be making in our language and customs, implanting presentism into what was; #MeToo, #They/Them, #SaveThePlanet, #LoveTrump, #HateTrump, #Covid Good, #Covid Bad, #Kardashian. Go ahead, have at all that. Your brain is most likely bigger than mine, anyway.
I am just trying to tend my own garden, grab both a dessert and a drink at my local fast-food joint, and convince myself that I am indeed not eating bad.
