Happening slightly off our New Jersey shores (just a hop and skip to Eason PA) a personal publisher of mine (and quite a few others) Parisian Phoenix Publishing is hosting their summer 50 Books in Five Years Celebration with Blue Flame Events Land of Curiosities Festival at the Palmer Park Mall (Easton, Pa.) this weekend.
On hand will be a bunch of Parisian Phoenix authors and book creators. The line-up includes an 11 am to 1pm appearance by Joe Swarctz, illustrator and creator of the Echo City Capers children’s book series (which I happen to write). At the same time, folks can come talk local history with Wayne Sherrer, who did original research for his book on the African-American history of Phillipsburg, N.J., with his book, Phorgotten No More.
At 1 p.m., emergency preparedness expert, Thurston Gill, author of The Phulasso Devotional, will sign books and answer questions about Phulasso Living. He’ll also provide a free CPR demo, for humans and their furry counterparts. Thurston is a certified first aid and CPR instructor and a fun guy.
Poets Brian Mahoney and Sheena Stimpfl are also expected, authors of Discovering Sea Glass and I Might Imagine Wild Things, respectively; and Larry Sceurman, oral storyteller and author of books for both children and adults: Frog and Crow’s Conversation, Bookworm’s Magical Journey, The Death of Big Butch (historical fiction novella) and Coffee in the Morning (short story collection).
Eva Parry will also stop by to promote her tarot journal, Shuffling & Scribbling.
At 3:30 p.m., Darrell Parry, the poet behind Stick Figure Quarterly and Twists: Gathered Ephemera, will host a poetry reading featuring himself, Nancy Scott (whose early chapbooks Leveling the Spin and Hearing the Sunrise are only available at the Made in the Neighborhood store, at the mall, the ONLY place that has ALL Parisian Phoenix books under one roof) and her essays are part of Not an Able-Bodied White Man with Money) and newcomer Vanessa Violette Vicario.
At about 4 p.m., all are invited to join an open mic.
