Happy Turkey Day To You

Spread the love

I’m not sure how it happens for you, but Labor Day comes then there seems to be a rush to Halloween, then all too quickly the jack-o-lanterns are extinguished and then we are at Christmas…at least with how retail stores would have us take it.

But there is the wonderful holiday of Thanksgiving stuck in the middle of it all (and my sister’s birthday is always around the same time, but this is not a holiday celebrated across the country…though it should be). So, let’s not forget the holiday soon upon us and how we celebrate it now in our modern times. We do well to remember that Thanksgiving is a time for…

  • Stuffing your face, sleeping during the game post the big meal, mashing carbs with sweets into your blood stream, and figuring what to do with all those leftovers that you really won’t be in the mood to eat over the weekend.
  • Making sure once again not to invite those relatives whose political views differ from yours.
  • Suffering through the drudgery of setting up your further holiday decorations the day after and being reminded of those better holidays past as you take out that old snow globe and try to untangle the mess of twinkly lights.
  • Readying your finger and credit cards for the rush to buy all the presents you need by Friday so you can brag to friends you already have your Amazon holiday order done or waking early that same morning, picking up your bestie, grabbing a coffee from Wawa and waiting on line, in the cold, with a bunch of other folks, hoping to get into the big box store opening early for its brick-and-mortar ‘Black Friday.’
  • Bemoaning that this year isn’t like 2021 when you had a virtual Thanksgiving.
  • Realizing as you scrape the spackle-like mess of cranberry and a green bean casserole from your plates, that there is only 17 days until the start of Hanukkah, 28 until Christmas Day, 29 until the beginning of Kwanza and 34 until new Years Eve…then nothing like this run up to holidaze coming until we do all this all over again.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
