The World’s Largest Carved Mailbox

Spread the love

Did you know that the world’s largest carved mailbox sits on the side of Cedar Grobe Lane in Somerset NJ? Yes, our great state, known for so much the world over, also holds within it this marvel.

I was down central Jersey way (and don’t get me started on where actually central Jersey begins, as opposed to north and south) to visit a buddy, and having mapped out where his house was a few weeks before (I try to stay off GPS, preferring to use my brain and writing down directions, as much as possible). Google Maps highlighted this wooden carving along with the other notable structures in the area.

Of course I had to see it for myself.

My buddy, who passes the thing all the time, just thought it was a weird sculpture somebody had thrust a mailbox into, which indeed it is. But the largest one of its kind? Right here in Jersey? Wow, look at us!

I know that folks who live other places have some interesting, maybe even world-recording-setting sites to see. There are these weird little attractions, natural anomalies, made-made amusements all over the world. Given how old some places are outside of the U.S. you can rest assured you might find some really odd, old and even infamous spots (I have visited a few). But I love when I can brag about something in New Jersey and that the something bolsters our reputation for the quite odd.

If you live in New Jersey, I am sure you have heard about the Weird NJ publication: https://weirdnj.com/. I have followed Mark and Mark who began the magazine since their humble beginnings. They still publish the magazine quarterly (which I love) but have branched out into hardcovers (covering more states then just NJ) a TV show, and all kinds of stuff appearing under their brand. They do our weird state proud and like no other. In fact, I know I have seen a picture of the odd little wooden fellow above in the magazine. They got wind of it just like I did.

So, keep your eyes peeled, my little droogs, more than wild wooden mailboxes are out there, everywhere.
